K-8 Faith Formation

Program Overview

The K-8 Faith Formation program at St John’s strives to lovingly and knowledgeably teach the Catholic faith, build community, and help all children and families to know, embrace, and love our Trinitarian God, Christ’s Church and our neighbors.

St John’s supports and relies on many talented volunteer teachers (catechists) to share the faith and build community weekly with our students in formal classroom settings. We also offer summer Vacation Bible School and summer programs and Scripture Study for high school and college students. In addition, we continue to expand our efforts in family faith formation with more and more parent and family involvement opportunities. Our ultimate goals include the development, support, and enrichment of the Domestic Church – our families are the first and most important settings for faith formation.

Our K-8 programs support children and families on their faith journeys, preparing them for high school and adulthood with a firm foundation in the Catholic Christian faith and the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation.

If you feel that the Holy Spirit is calling you to be a teacher, please contact us!

Call to Discipleship: Are you Called to be a Catechist?

The ministry of catechesis is greatly important. The work of a Catechist or Assistant Catechist is a beautiful ministry in which one is called by Christ. The call to be a Catechist is a call to discipleship: to build relationships with children and families and share our Catholic faith. Contact the Director of Faith Formation to learn how you can be involved.

Sacramental Preparation

Second graders celebrate the sacrament of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.  Parents and catechists are involved in the preparation process. The beginning of the year focuses on Reconciliation and receiving the gift of God’s Mercy. The second half the children continue their journey with Christ learning more about the Mass and Eucharist. Contact the Faith Formation Director for more information.

St. John’s  Confirmation is a 1-year preparation process during the 9th-grade year. Confirmation candidates immerse themselves in group study, retreat experiences, service projects and personal prayer. For more information, contact the Youth Minister or Director of Faith Formation.
